Go on! You deserve it! Isn’t that what the TV ads tell you all the time? Eating good food is one of the great pleasures in life, why spoil it by settling for second best?
Yes, Certified Organic food is more expensive, production is more labour intensive. Weeds are pulled out, plants are nurtured and strengthened to shrug off pests and disease, crop rotations and companion planting are planned. Diaries are kept on what goes on/in the soil and why. An extraordinary amount of hard work goes into the Certified Organic farm, and then the farmer has to pay for the Certification. This may go part way toward explaining why you have to pay a little more, but isn’t it worth it to have the choice of buying food which tastes as it used to, years ago, before chemical sprays and storage?
Do you remember when you really tasted something for the first time?I was blown away by a carrot!!! It was years ago, some local people were picking carrots and laughingly gave us some for the horses we were riding.
We stuffed them in our pockets, but I’d already caught a whiff of the smell of soil and the carrot sweetness. Waste them on the horses? You have to be kidding. That’s when I began to understand about food, the sooner you can eat it from the ground the better! That carrot was the sweetest thing. Why hadn’t I tasted a carrot like that before? Don’t get me wrong, I could have started Chocaholics are Us before THAT CARROT!
And what about health?
Your poor body has enough problems dealing with all the pollutants over which you have no control, exhaust fumes, cigarette smoke, factory smoke, contaminated water. Why put more chemicals into it by eating food which has been deliberately sprayed with poisons for which the sprayer has had to wear a mask to dispense? The instructions for one poison for killing tiny insects warn the sprayer to cover up from head to foot before use, as well as definitely not being down wind. WHAT? And you’re going to eat this?Why not give your body a chance and eat food which is clean of chemicals and is seasonal? The nutritional value is obvious, even to Chocaholics.
Some time after we went Organic, I suddenly realized I was no longer getting all those coughs and colds, but it didn’t happen right away, it took about six months to kick in, more vitamins AND no chemicals to fight off!
